Better Bolts Campaign
In response, in 2007 the BMC launched the Better Bolts Campaign, which has continued through to 2008-9. The aim is simple: to promote high quality, safe and sustainable re-equiping of existing bolt protection and belays. To achieve this, the campaign has:
- Provided good quality bolts for donation to local Bolt Funds in England & Wales.
- Published guidance documents for climbers and bolt activists.
- Run knowledge-sharing workshops for bolt activists.
- Begun long-term testing of bolt systems for safety, longevity and sustainability.
Bolt Donations
Bolts have been purchased by the BMC for donation to local bolts funds. Details will be published on how and when to bid for bolts. Bolts are for re-equiping on a like for like basis, whilst applying common sense. All bids have to be approved by the relevant BMC area committee, to avoid problems with landowners, and to ensure local ethics are adhered to.
