BMC specialist committee programmes 2008

Ever wondered what the BMC does, or why membership subscriptions are so important? One part of the answer are the BMC Specialist Committees and the work they do.

Every December the BMC National Council meets to review the work of the BMC specialist committees.  They do this in two ways.  Firstly, they review the terms of reference for each committee - this is simply a document that sets out who is on the committee and what the committee is set up to do - to see if it is still valid. To see a report of that meeting please click here.

Secondly, they look at what each committee has achieved during the year and also scrutinise what the committee wants to do in the following year. National Council members also have the opportunity to raise questions with the Chair of each specialist committee and the BMC officer who works with that committee. It is also a time to thank the huge numbers of volunteers involved as well as celebrate the vast amount they do and achieve on behalf of their fellow climbers, hill walkers and mountaineers - all of it greatly appreciated, but much of it unrecognised.

Below is a list of the BMC specialist committees.  To view their terms of reference, reports for 2007 and forward plans for 2008, simply click on the link below each committee's name. You'll be amazed at the amount they do on your behalf!
