BMC supported expeditions 2007

Posted by Tina Gardner on 19/06/2007

Wondering what new routes, technical climbs and other mountaineering expeditions are happening in 2007?

This year the BMC has given financial support to 22 expeditions and approval to a further 11. Grants have ranged from £300 to £1,200, substantially lower than in the past due to the withdrawal of sponsorship by UK Sport.

Check out below the exciting list of mountaineering expeditions approved or supported by the BMC.

Many of these have already returned, with mixed results. Bad weather stopped any attempt on Mariposa, and forced the teams in the Darwin and Yukon onto lesser objectives. In contrast, all three expeditions to Alaska were highly successful and the trip to the Zhopu pasture in Sichuan resulted in the first ascent of Hadi.

The biggest success this year came, perhaps inevitably, from Messers Fowler and Ramsden with their first ascent of the stunning Manamcho in Tibet. However, the teams visiting Kalanka, Kharchakund, Yangmolung and Paine, could yet complete really major ascents.
